It is important for you to understand that you are part of the community when you live in Southern California.  This means that we must band together in certain circumstances to overcome obstacles that we would not be able to overcome on our own.  One of these obstacles is the conservation of water, and making sure that we have enough drinking water in order to survive and thrive as a community.  If even a few people are known to waste water, that has an effect on other people wasting water as they feel that they are the only ones who are enduring hardship while everyone else isn’t.  This is the way that collective mentality brings about the downfall of the entire group, and this is what we’re trying to avoid with regards to run out of water.  When many of the communities where first created there was ample water to go around in relation to the amount of population in the area.  Over time, the population grew and the water supply sure and as more drought conditions happened with more regularity.  Severe drought used to only happen about once every 10 years, and we have noticed that now they are happening every other year or so.  This means that as the drought conditions worsen we run eight more significant the risk of running out of water to drink.  If we run out, there is nowhere for us to go to get more water.  This is why we must band together as a community and make sure that everyone is doing their part to conserve as much water as possible.

If you don’t know what you can do in order to help conserve water, the best thing you can do is to simply not waste it.  Every year, a single square foot of grass in Southern California will use up to 50 gallons of water to stay alive.  Every ounce of this water can be used for drinking purposes by people and animals, and instead it is running down the sewers and into the ground simply to keep decorative landscaping alive.  For this reason, it is encouraged that you remove your existing grass lawn and replace it with either desert landscaping or artificial turf.  Synthetic grass is a plastic substance it is adhered to a backing material and maintains the exact look and feel of regular grass without needing any water in order to stay green.  This allows for not only a clean and beautiful lawn, but also the ability to conserve water and do your part to help out the community.  If helping others is not something that appeals to you, you can also keep in mind that removing your grass lawn will save you thousands of gallons of water every year that you were paying for.  In only a few years your synthetic lawn will more than pay for itself in savings on your water bills that will be seen every month.  Conserve for yourself or conserve for others, but synthetic grass is the way to go.
